6/4/13, 7:00pm, The Beijing Center
Today we went as a group to Milu Park. Milu was a species
of deer native to China and they went extinct. Later, the Chinese found out that there
were some in Europe that had been brought over years earlier. The Chinese
government set up an agreement that if some of the Milu were sent back they
would have a special reserve for them. At the park we observed the animals and
different birds in the area. There was a lake in the middle with some wetlands
surrounding it. The park felt very manmade, but it was still nice. We did soil
testing and the soil tested pretty well for erosion. There isn’t a lot of
nature within Beijing that I’ve seen so far. On the bus ride to the park I
noticed a lot of poorer housing areas. This is something that I have not
experienced before so it was really interesting. I keep wondering what the
affects of the pollution are on the people who live here their whole lives.
