6/10/13, 8:00pm, The Beijing Center
Today after class we went to The Forbidden City.
The old architecture was really pretty. We were talking about how the gold
paint on the buildings has real flecks of gold in it. The paint fades away and
the place is so big that by the time they finish painting it, they need to
start over again at the beginning. I wonder how expensive it is to paint the
entire place with gold paint! A lot of the buildings were falling apart a
little. The other day we tested the rainwater and it was pH 4. I bet the acid
rain is not good for the structure of the city. There were so many people
there! Most of them were tourists from around China. A lot of them wanted to
take pictures with Mariel, the coordinator for our program. It’s really funny,
but a lot of them are really fascinated by blonde hair and blue eyes so there
were people taking pictures of us while we walked through.
